Weather, more weather, and the long hike out...
Another squall line blowing in from the West. We needed clear weather, with the promise of better days ahead, in order to make the next traverse along the ridge. We needed to cross the ridge crest to a point where we could drop down onto the "Dome" section of Mt. Robson. The next couple of days saw us watching the weather and hoping for a break.
Finally, we really got pounded by a snow storm (Aug 11 this is!), which put climbing the rocky ridge out of the question. Heading back down the heavily crevassed upper Robson glacier. Back in the Extinguisher Tower area on the long way out to the trailhead.
A view of the lower snout of the upper Robson glacier. Ted and Dan heading down to the lower Robson glacier. Ted on the bare ice of the lower Robson glacier with Robson seemingly forever in the clouds.
Back to Berg Lake, with, again, Robson's summit and upper Kain Face still in the clouds--even though the overall weather was excellent. View down toward the Whitehorn shelter (center of picture) on the hike out. Looking toward Kinney Lake, where we had (thoughtfully) stashed three beers in the cool water on the way up. Those beers tasted mighty good on the way out!
Mike hiking through the lush forest, thinking about the beers at the car! Finally, the trailhead is in sight. Sneakers (a major relief for the feet), beer and a promise of real food in Jasper. Dan and Mike enjoy a much-deserved beer back at the car. We have all our gear spread out to dry.
Next...on to climb Mt. Athabasca
